Residents in Chicago's 2nd District are on high alert as the neighborhood grapples with a spike in catalytic converter thefts. According to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, all incidents occurred in April, with thieves targeting parked vehicles to unlawfully remove their catalytic converters.

The alert pinpointed several incidents, with thefts occurring both during the day and night, revealing the brazen nature of the criminals behind these acts. Specifically, thefts were noted on the 1100 block of E. 52nd St., the 1200 block of E. 54th St., the 5300 block of S. Cornell Ave., and the 5100 block of S. Kenwood Ave. The police, amid these reported crimes, urge the public to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to deter potential theft.

In response to this alarming trend, law enforcement officials are advising property owners to keep their perimeters well-lit and to report any suspicious activity without hesitation. Moreover, if residents possess video surveillance, they're being asked to preserve evidence that could aid in catching the crooks. Upon being a victim of such theft, residents are warned not to tamper with anything and call the police immediately.
