A YouTube travel duo have made a video exploring the spire at the top of St Walburge’s Church in Preston.

‘Explore the UK,’ who have previously made videos tracing a derelict section of the Lancaster Canal which runs under Preston city centre, posted the video last week.

Vloggers, Sue and Elliott, flew a drone to look at the 309ft spire, the third tallest in the UK and tallest of any parish church.

In the video, Elliott gives three interesting facts about the church built in 1854.

He explains how it is thought to be built on top of a former leprosy hospital, it has the heaviest swinging bell in the whole of Lancashire and it was the last spire to be worked on by TV presenter and steeplejack, Fred Dibnah.

Starting at the bottom, the camera works its way up to the top, exploring every inch of the tall structure and taking in the Preston landscape.

Described as an “architecture lover’s delight’ the camera work sees an up close and personal view of the details.

The church gave the public a chance to climb the 172 steps of the spire for three Saturdays in January this year.

They also hosted a musical Stations of the Cross with the Octavius Choir last month in March.
