CAPE TOWN - The Eastern Cape Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (also known as the Hawks) has arrested three suspects for the kidnapping of 43-year-old Lu Xian.

According to the Hawks, the victim was forced into a double cab bakkie while leaving his workplace at Uitenhage shopping mall last week.

He was driven off by one of the suspects to a house in Missionvale in Gqeberha. 

On Tuesday, the provincial Hawks spokesperson, Yolisa Mgolodela, said information on the whereabouts of the man was received and he was found unharmed.

"On 16 April 2024, at about 19:15, information was received about the suspects being in an RDP house in Missionvale where the victim was found tied with chains and his face covered.

"Three suspects aged between 31 and 41 were arrested on the spot. The victim was rescued without the payment of the ransom."

The trio are expected to appear in court on Friday.
