Calvary’s Loren Sivils tops Week 32 Shreveport Times Athlete of the Week voting
Calvary’s Loren Sivils garnered enough votes this week to win the fifth annual Shreveport Times online poll for Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission and Silmon and Cosse Orthodontics.
A standout softball player for the Lady Cavaliers, Sivils becomes the second Calvary softball player to win in the non-football poll for the 2023-24 school year. She joins previous winners that include Benton’s Claire Allen and Brody Hutchison, along with Caddo Magnet’s Elena Pizarro and Calvary’s Jackson Burney and Calvary’s DJ Lynch.
Sivils and her supporters accumulated 90,310 votes, a solid 61.5% of the 146,755 votes cast in the weekly online recognition. Those numbers allowed Sivils to top a field of 15 additional candidates, including Northwood softball player Devan Ashby, who finished in second place with and impressive 50,918 votes (36.7%).
Sivils will receive a duffle bag, a boxed lunch combo and some additional swag courtesy of Raising Cane’s.
Currently hitting at a .344 clip for Calvary (31-2), which will begin the LHSAA playoffs this week, Sivils has 16 home runs, 42 RBIs and 35 runs scored with 19 walks.

“Loren is a talented player who brings a lot of power in our lineup,” Calvary coach Tiffany Wood said. “She’s also a great teammate. She’s one of the first ones to encourage someone when they need it. She’s hard on herself and strives for perfection. She’s constantly looking for ways to get better and that helps her be such a great player.”
Others on the 32nd ballot of the school year were Mackenzie McCoy, Lakeside softball; Paige Marshall, Airline softball; Regan Davlin, North DeSoto softball; Madison Nelson, Winnfield softball; Lainey Lafitte, Benton softball; Landry McLamb, Caddo Magnet softball; Peyton Beck, Ruston baseball; Tristan Beaty, Evangel baseball; Jackson Waller, Glenbrook baseball; Rhyson Carroway, Captain Shreve baseball; John Patrick Bartle, Byrd track; Tyler Stewart, Haughton track; Vivian Vekovius, Caddo Magnet tennis and Colton Cross, St. Mary’s tennis.
They were chosen because of their performance the previous week or because their names were submitted by their coach. The Times poll is posted each Monday at shreveporttimes.com with a new slate of student-athletes in high school sports other than football.
The Times online only poll runs through Thursday midnight. The poll includes northwest Louisiana athletes competing in volleyball, cross country, swimming, cheerleading, basketball, soccer, wrestling, powerlifting, indoor and outdoor track, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, bowling, gymnastics and fishing while those sports are in season.
