Josh Allen’s contract extension is done, Trevor Lawrence and these Jaguars should be next

Josh Allen is set to officially become the highest paid player in Jacksonville Jaguars franchise history.

It’s reported that Allen will sign a five-year, $150 million extension to keep the former first rounder in Jacksonville long-term.

Allen is coming off a season that saw him record a franchise-record 17.5 sacks and earn AFC All-Pro and Pro Bowl nods.

With the deal, Allen will become the first $100 million player in franchise history, but he won’t be the last as quarterback Trevor Lawrence will likely see a large contract extension soon.

Trevor Lawrence, Quarterback

It should go without saying Lawrence and the Jaguars will be committing to a long-term partnership.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft, Lawrence has established himself as a solution to the previous uncertainty for Jacksonville at the quarterback position.

Not just on the field, where he’s already moved into fourth in franchise history for passing yards and passing touchdowns, but he’s a leader in the locker room.

Whether it’s this offseason or next year, Lawrence will be locked down by the franchise for the foreseeable future.

Travis Etienne, Running back

The market for running back isn’t great. It was so bad that some of the league’s top backs got together last summer to discuss possible solutions for them to get contract extensions.

Etienne is in a unique situation. For the last two seasons he was the best running back in Jacksonville despite the draft picks and free agent acquisitions brought in.

It’d serve Jacksonville well to extend him since he’s displayed his ability to rise above the season-ending Lisfranc injury he suffered in his rookie season.

Tyson Campbell, Cornerback

This year will be big for Campbell. A standout sophomore campaign gave the front office confidence that they found a staple in the secondary.

But a string of injuries disrupted his third season in the league, causing there to be questions about his long-term future with Jacksonville.

And with cornerback as a potential first round pick for the team in this month’s draft, the clock could be on for Campbell’s tenure with the team.

If he could revert to previous form, he’ll be in line for a new deal to keep him with the team.

Andre Cisco, Safety

Cisco is in a similar boat to Campbell.

He started the year well for the Jaguars before having injuries derail his playing time. Playing under new defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen could balloon him into a breakout year like Jessie Bates III had with the Falcons last season.

When he's at his best he's a ballhawking, hard-hitting player who can make a difference on the game whether teams are passing or running the football.

If he re-finds his form, he’ll see an extension with the club.
