South Mountain, North Canyon students voted The Republic High School athletes of the week

Phoenix South Mountain junior track and field athlete DeMar Coleman and Phoenix North Canyon freshman track and field athlete Devyn Henderson have been chosen as this week's Arizona Republic high school athletes of the week, in weekly polls posted on April 16, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath and posted on azcentral.com.

Coleman was nominated after running 21.22 seconds in the 200 meters at the Hohokam Invitational, the second-fastest time in the state this season.

Also nominated were Gilbert senior track and field athlete Vance Nilsson, who broke the state record in the 300-meter hurdles and ran a nation-leading time of 35.67 at the Hohokam Invitational; and Phoenix Brophy Prep junior tennis player Ryan Zerbib, who won both of his singles matches, going 6-0, 6-0 against Scottsdale Chaparral on and 6-2, 6-1 against Mesa Mountain View, and won both of his doubles matches.

In the girls poll, Henderson was nominated after running 11.90 in the 100 meters at the Hohokam Invitational, which is the fastest time in the state by a freshman this season.

Also nominated were Goodyear Millennium senior Landen LeBlond, who ran a state-leading time of 5:03.60 at the Scottsdale Distance Classic to set a new state lead; and Phoenix Sandra Day O'Connor senior volleyball player, who had 27 kills in a 5-0 win over Phoenix Sunnyslope and 23 kills in a 4-1 win over Phoenix Desert Vista in two games last week.

Nominees are based on performances in AIA-sanctioned sports. Polls are posted on Monday and voting closes at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Results are announced the next day on azcentral.com and in The Arizona Republic on Friday. Nominees are chosen by Republic sports staff, with input from coaches and readers.
