Championship roundup: Defeat at Millwall pegs back leaders Leicester

  • Sheffield Wednesday snatch draw, Huddersfield thrashed

Leicester missed the chance to go four points clear at the top of the Championship after a 1-0 loss at Millwall. Ryan Longman’s brilliant top-corner finish was the difference for the Lions, who climbed into 17th. Leicester stayed one point clear at the summit after Leeds moved into second following a goalless draw against Sunderland.

The substitute Milutin Osmajic bagged a quickfire hat-trick as Preston completed an incredible second-half comeback to beat relegation-threatened Huddersfield 4-1. Josh Koroma handed the Terriers the lead in the 42nd minute, but Preston equalised when Will Keane levelled from the penalty spot.

League One: Barnsley slip up to Stevenage

Barnsley missed the chance to consolidate their place in the play-off places as they went down 2-1 away at fellow top-six hopefuls Stevenage.

The Tykes looked set to climb to fourth and put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack when Adam Phillips scored on the half-hour mark to give Neill Collins' side the lead. That advantage was wiped out at the end of the first half by Jamie Reid, before midfielder Dan Butler won it after the break.

Jake Beesley's goal ensured Blackpool stayed in the play-off equation by beating second-bottom Fleetwood 1-0 at home, a result which left the struggling visitors a daunting six points from safety with only four games left to play.

Elsewhere at the bottom, Cheltenham missed the chance to climb out of the bottom four as they went down 1-0 at home to already relegated Carlisle, defender Sam Lavelle with the only goal.

Reading moved nine points clear of the drop zone thanks to a 2-0 win away at Bristol Rovers, Sam Smith and Lewis Wing scoring in the first half to allay Rubén Selles' team's relegation fears.

Wigan drew 2-2 away at Charlton whilst Leyton Orient - down to 10 men due to Brandon Cooper's injury having already used their five substitutes - let slip a two-goal lead late on to draw 2-2 with Exeter.

Osmajic starred from the bench in the final stages, striking twice in three minutes before completing his treble in the second minute of stoppage time to snatch three points and leave Town outside the bottom three on goal difference.

Sheffield Wednesday scored two late goals to salvage a crucial point in their relegation battle after a 2-2 draw against Norwich. The visitors struck quickly in the opening stages with Josh Sargent putting the Canaries ahead in the 11th minute before Borja Sainz doubled the advantage five minutes later.Wednesday turned the game around in the final 15 minutes with Michael Ihiekwe pulling one back before Michael Smith levelled in the 85th minute to leave them alongside Huddersfield.

League Two: Stockport stay on course for promotion

Stockport maintained their four-point lead at the top of the table thanks to a goal in the second half from Paddy Madden, earning Dave Challinor's side a 2-1 victory away at Colchester.

Cameron McGeehan's goal just before half-time had equalised Nick Powell's goal for the league leaders but the defeat means they remained in the relegation places, albeit with two games in hand.

Second-place Wrexham were 4-1 winners at home to Crawley, Paul Mullin with two goals as they opened up a five-point lead in the race for automatic promotion

Mansfield's 1-0 win against bottom side Forest Green, earned via a 20th-minute goal from Tom Nichols, meant all of the division's top three sides were victorious, though Mansfield can leapfrog Wrexham by winning their game in hand. That result also delayed Stockport's promotion until at least Saturday.

Crewe beat Morecambe 1-0 to hold on to fifth place, though play-off hopefuls Walsall lost ground with a 2-1 defeat away at Doncaster, whilst Crawley's loss also dealt a blow to their top-seven hopes.

Harrogate beat Grimsby 1-0 whilst Accrington were 3-1 winners away at Newport.

Fourth-placed Southampton continued their play-off push with a 2-1 win against Coventry. Haji Wright missed a penalty for the Sky Blues in the 10th minute and Southampton struck just eight minutes later through Kyle Walker-Peters. Che Adams doubled the lead just before the break before Jake Bidwell pulled one back for Coventry, who remain just outside the play-off places.

Plymouth earned a valuable point after drawing 1-1 with QPR. Sam Field put the visitors ahead from a corner, but Argyle are two points above the drop zone as Albert Adomah turned the ball into his own net.
