Impaired woman with child in car crashed on I-84 in Southington, state police say
SOUTHINGTON, CT (WFSB) - A woman from Massachusetts was arrested on operating under the influence charges after state police said she was involved in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 in Southington.
Troopers identified the driver as 36-year-old Elizabeth Callow Silva of Boston, MA.
According to state police, they responded to I-84 west near exit 28 on Saturday around 7:25 p.m.
The drivers of two other vehicles headed west in the right lane when Silva rear-ended one vehicle, which caused that driver to veer into the other’s vehicle.
They said the crash blocked two lanes of the highway.
The two drivers were not seriously hurt.
“Upon further investigation of the accident, the operator of the BMW X5, Elizabeth Callow Silva, was found to be operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol,” state police said. “Silva was placed under arrest and transported to [state police barracks] Troop H where she was processed without incident.”
A passenger in Silva’s vehicle, a 1-year-old girl, was transported to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford for minor injuries.
Silva was charged second-degree reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a child, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence with a child.
She was released on a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
Silva was scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on May 3.
