Man knocked unconscious during ‘unprovoked’ attack in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MI – A man was knocked unconscious in an unprovoked attack near Western Michigan University, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said in a news release on Wednesday, April 17.

The incident happened around 6:40 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in the 2700 block of West Michigan Avenue near Howard Street.

Officers gave aid to the victim and he was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The victim’s injuries were serious, but not life threatening, police said.

Witnesses told police the assault was “unprovoked.”

The individuals possibly involved in the attack immediately fled the area, police said. Police are trying to identify three men found in surveillance footage in the area, but did not say how they might be involved.
