INDIANAPOLIS – A man who conspired to kill an Indianapolis rideshare driver learned his punishment this week.

On Monday, a judge sentenced 19-year-old Jahion Jarrett to 35 years for conspiracy to commit murder, a Level 1 felony. He pleaded guilty to that charge; other counts, including murder, were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

Jarrett was 17 years old when he was arrested in connection with the death of 45-year-old Hurts Presendieu, a Lyft driver whose body was found dumped behind a storage building on July 9, 2024. Jarrett was charged as an adult.

Police in Cumberland found Presendieu’s Nissan Rogue around 4 a.m. on July 12, 2021, but were unable to stop it. The vehicle took off and eventually crashed near East Washington Street and Shadeland Avenue.

Police detained three juveniles, including Jarrett, who’d been driving the vehicle.

According to court documents, Jarrett, who lived in Greenwood, was on GPS monitoring for a separate case. His GPS pinged at the site where Presendieu’s body was discovered.

Investigators said Jarrett used his girlfriend’s Lyft account to summon a ride. He told her it was going to be a “lick”—slang for a robbery.

According to the girlfriend’s account, Jarrett told her he shot the driver in the head and then went to an area near a church.

In September 2021, prosecutors charged Jarrett with murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, resisting law enforcement, dangerous possession of a firearm and conspiracy to commit murder resulting in death.
