Richland One hosts job fair to help tackle teacher shortage

As the state continues to deal with a teacher shortage, class is in session this week in a way. Richland school district one hosting a job fair to help put more teachers in their classrooms.

“52 schools and centers we have something for everyone around here.” Said Felicia Richardson, District coordinator for Richland One.

Saturday’s job fair at Eau Claire High School is one of three job fairs hosted by Richland One every year.

Felicia Is excited about this years turnout and for the teachers looking for a job.

“Here’s the good thing about the booths, we have some booths that have principals and administrators but many of the also have teachers and you can ask those teachers whatever you’d like to ask about, the school, the district and those kinds of things because they’re the best to answer what it’s like to be here.” Said Felicia.

Aspiring teachers on Saturday are looking for what the best fit is for them, some even coming from out of state.

“I’m looking to matriculate into the area and I’m here at the job fair to see what all Richland One has to offer and so far so good, I’ve been acquainted and come into some great people with some great minds and great smiles today.” Said Tiita Barmore, Out of State Teacher,

“We are so excited to have new educators in Richland One to share their expertise with our ever-growing Richland One family, we are a family in Richland One and so driven by community and our relationships with our families and each other as staff and educators.” Said Sally McCants, Former R1 Teacher of the Year

Around the country, school districts are facing a major teacher shortage and here in SC that number for this school year is up 9% at over 1600 vacancies.

Newly hired certified teachers will also receive a $2,000 signing bonus, and Richland One is also offering reimbursement for moving expenses and certification application costs.

“If you are prepared and have what it takes to be a productive teacher, someone that’s highly motivated and can motivate our students, we’re looking for you.” Said Felicia.
