King Charles and Queen Camilla Are Spending Some 'Private Time' at Special Place amid His Cancer Treatment

The King, 75, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, and the Queen, 76, are staying at their favorite Scottish hideaway, Birkhall, for a few days.
It's customary for them to head to the grand house, close to the royals' Balmoral Castle and set within the Balmoral estate, around this time every year as they seek a peaceful break around their wedding anniversary. They marked 19 years of marriage on April 9.
The couple's plane was pictured at Aberdeen Airport a day later on Wednesday, April 10. They were then taken on about an hour's drive to the estate, with a royal source confirming they are spending some "private time" there.
Nestled on the banks of the River Muick, the secluded spot — where they like to walk with their dogs, rescued Jack Russell Terriers Bluebell and Beth — will enable King Charles to rest amid his cancer treatment and Queen Camilla to recharge her batteries. The Queen has been stepping in for her husband frequently during his treatment.

Charles was heading from there to Balmoral Castle when he heard that his mother, Queen Elizabeth, had died in 2022, Robert Hardman revealed in his biography of the King, The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, earlier this year. He and Camilla were also there during the COVID-19 crisis of 2020, with Charles spending time there isolating after testing positive for the viral disease and working from the estate at the height of the government-imposed lockdowns.

On April 7, days before traveling to Scotland, King Charles was photographed smiling and waving to well-wishers from the backseat of a car as he headed to church at the royal family's Sandringham estate in Norfolk, where they traditionally celebrate Christmas together.
Since announcing that he had been diagnosed with cancer on Feb. 5, the monarch has been spotted going to church on many weekends in Sandringham. He also regularly spends some of the week in London, where he keeps up with state duties and meetings, including hosting small audiences, although most of his public duties are on hold amidst his treatment.

Just before Easter, a royal source told PEOPLE that the King is "progressing well" and there is an "amplified confidence" about the sophisticated treatment he is receiving.
"He is positive, the doctors are optimistic," the source said.
Palace sources added that his recovery is moving in a positive direction and that his aides are keeping up with their plans for the year ahead while remaining mindful of advice from the monarch's medical team.
