For the first time ever, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, will be announced on primetime TV.
The 2024 inductees will be announced during ABC’s “American Idol,” on Sunday, April 21, which also will include legendary rock star Gene Simmons of Kiss as guest mentor to the 14 remaining contestants. Kiss was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014. The show airs at 8 p.m.

The Top 14 Idol singers will sing songs “from legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees as American votes live for the Top 12,” ABC said.
The Hall of Fame nominees for 2024 are Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Kool & The Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne, Sade and A Tribe Called Quest.
In fan voting, which closed on April 15, the top five vote-getters were the Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, Foreigner, Ozzy Osbourne and Cher. The fan ballots will be combined with the other ballots to determine the inductees.
“American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest will announce the inductees with Lionel Richie, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2022. The other judges on the show are Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.
The induction ceremony is expected to be held in Cleveland, Ohio, in the fall. It will stream live on Disney+ and later on ABC.
On the Monday, April 22, episode of “American Idol,” Meghan Trainor will mentor the Top 12 “before they perform their favorite Billboard #1 hits live from Hollywood, giving their all to earn America’s vote once more. Two Idol journeys will end as the Top 10 are solidified by the end of the night.”
