Browns return to fan-favorite white face masks and unveil new logo

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns have gone back to the future with a return to their fan-favorite white face masks for 2024.

They’ve also unveiled a new logo and new merchandise is available online.

“We are excited to honor our storied history through the return of the white face mask,” JW Johnson, executive VP of the Browns and a partner of the Haslam Sports Group, said in a press release. “As we continue to write the next chapter of Browns history, we reflect on different eras, such as the Kardiac Kids and the return of the franchise, that led us to this place in time.”

The Browns wore white face masks from 1975-95, and again from 1999-2005. They were hallmarks of the wildly successful and popular Kardiac Kids and AFC Championship eras.

In the Kardiac Kids years of 1979 and 1980, quarterback Brian Sipe led the Browns to many thrilling last-minute victories and a divisional playoff berth in 1980. In the era of the late 1980s, Bernie Kosar led the Browns to three AFC Championship Games and eight playoff appearances. The Browns also donned the white face masks when they returned in 1999, and made the playoffs in 2002.

The Browns also featured the white face masks twice in the last two seasons: once in 2022 in Week 15 against the Ravens; and in Week 11 against the Steelers last season, the 13-10 Browns victory.

The overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans factored into their return.

“We heard our loyal fans and are thrilled to see the white face mask featured on the Browns’ helmets beginning with the 2024 season and beyond as we continue to write the history of our franchise,” Johnson said.
