Takeaways: Marlins offense lets one slip through their hands, fall to Giants 3-1

The Miami Marlins lost to the San Francisco Giants by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Miami Marlins were unable to pull off their first series win of the season as they lose to the San Fransisco Giants by a score of 3-1.

Here is everything you need to know from the game:

Trevor Rogers just shy of a quality start

Rogers got through 5.2 innings of work in this one and gave up just one earned run. He has gotten his earned run average under 4.00 after a couple of okay outings.

His worst outing is still his first of the season. He continues to round back into form and is back to where he has been for his career.

He actually has had one of his best Field Independent Pitching starts to the season, which just means that he has had some bad luck with the defense.

The Marlins starting rotation really hasn't been the team's biggest issue. That crown would go to the offense and bullpen.

Offense provides no support yet again

The biggest culprit in this game, though, was the lack of run support for Rogers and even the bullpen. The Marlins' lone run came off of a sixth inning solo-shot for Bryan De La Cruz.

Luis Arraez, Jazz Chisholm Jr., and Josh Bell went a combined 0-11 at the plate and got on base just once. That can't happen from your best bats, especially when you had the chance to win your first series of the season.

Jhonny Pereda makes well-earned MLB debut

The 28-year-old catcher made his MLB debut on Wednesday morning after spending over 10 years in the minor leagues.

He originally signed to the Chicago Cubs organization out of Venezuela at 17. He's certainly progressed througout his minor league career, getting to a point where he was slashing .346/.469/.423 in his first eight games in the organization.

Dealing with a multitude of issues at catcher -- mainly poor play and injury -- the Marlins decided that it was finally time to give him his shot. His family was there to see his debut as well.

He went 0-for-2 at the plate before behing pinch hit for by Emmanuel Rivera.

What's next for the Miami Marlins?

Miami heads to the Windy City for a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs. First pitch in Thursday's series opener is schedled for 7:40 PM ET.
