Arsene Wenger says Arsenal still have one ‘advantage’ in Premier League title race

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has now claimed that the club still have an advantage in the Premier League title race.

Mikel Arteta will have been frustrated as anyone to watch his side ultimately lose all three points at the Emirates against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Arsenal were being outplayed in the second half, but as Declan Rice said after the game, a point should have been the minimum.

Instead, the Gunners followed Liverpool’s lead and allowed Manchester City to take the driving seat in the title-race once again.

Pep Guardiola’s side must now be confident that they can win four Premier League medals in a row, a remarkable feat.

That being said, Arsene Wenger thought there was still reason for optimism from an Arsenal point of view when speaking during beIN SPORTS’ Champions League coverage last night.

Wenger was initially speaking about his ‘surprise’ that both Arsenal and Liverpool managed to lose on the same weekend.

The Arsenal legend was shocked that City had managed to get in front again, but then explained his old club’s advantage.

Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal’s goal difference is a big advantage in title race

Wenger believed that Arsenal’s goal difference, which currently stands at 49 in comparison to City’s 44, could still be crucial.

He explained: “It was a complete surprise, you know that when you play for the championship at home with eight games to go, and you have the opportunity to make a difference, you have to take it.

“The surprise of the weekend is that basically City has their nose in front again and nobody expected that.

“Of course, one could have a bad result of the two [Liverpool and Arsenal], that is quite surprising.

“Arsenal still has the advantage [with] their goal difference you know, so even if City makes a draw and we win, we will be in front of them.”

Can Arsenal win all six of their remaining games?

It’s certainly an interesting one to ponder – could Arsenal still win the league if they win all six of their remaining games?

The calendar reads as follows: Wolves (a), Chelsea (h), Tottenham Hotspur (a), Bournemouth (h), Manchester United (a), Everton (h).

Three incredibly tough away trips, but the kind of games that Arsenal will need to win to deservedly become champions.

It’s not entirely unrealistic that Manchester City could still win five and draw one match, even if they are almost perfect at this stage of the season.

All that being said, the focus is currently on Arsenal’s trip to face Bayern Munich tonight.

And Alan Brazil has just shared his prediction for the game.
