SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – A sea of blue at Upstate Hospital showed how much Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen and Onondaga Sheriff’s Lieutenant Deputy Michael Hoosock were loved by their brothers and sisters. Jensen and Hoosock were both killed in the line of duty on April 14.

Officer Jensen graduated from the Syracuse Police Academy in 2022. Officer Jensen was awarded the Watch Officer of the Month this past December.

“There are no words for it except to tell them that he was a proud officer who worked a territory car and after a little over two years on the job you could tell he took it seriously. to protect and serve the community,” Syracuse Police Chief Cecile said.

Jensen graduated from Le Moyne College and played for their club ice hockey team for five years there where he won 2013-14 Le Moyne Hockey Rookie of the Year.

The President of the Syracuse Police Benevolent Association, Joe Moran, said Jensen went to work with a bright smile ear to ear and a charming personality that resonated greatly with members.

Jensen, a young officer, quickly made a difference in the environment around him.

“It was very difficult to sit there with the family of a son who is two and a half years on the job, and they talk about how proud he was of that uniform and that badge, and I saw it when I went to roll calls and Moran said it that officer had a smile on his face every time,” Cecile said.

Lieutenant Michael Hoosock had been a member of the Onondaga Sheriff’s Office since 2007. Lieutenant Hoosock received the Medal of Valor and was honored with the New York State Deputy of the Year award.

“Had a wife, three young children ages three, five, and seven. He was our watch commander, our bomb squad commander. He received multiple accommodations and medals,” Onondaga Sheriff Toby Shelley said.

Michael Hoosock was made Lieutenant just this past June and was highly respected by his brothers and sisters in blue, but also was a pillar in the community.

“I knew Hoosock personally everybody knew him as ‘hooch’ you may have seen him last week if you were at the ribbon cutting at 57 and 31, he was a very active member of Moyers Corners fire department, and they were there for that ribbon cutting,” Onondaga Sheriff Toby Shelley said.

The PBA President emphasized that there are no dry eyes at the Public Safety Building nor the Onondaga Sheriff’s headquarters as they all grieve their fallen heroes.
