LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A Lafayette business that once employed thousands statewide appears to be no more.
The parent company of former food delivery service ASAP, once known as Waitr, has filed for bankruptcy protection.
Waitr Holdings, Inc. filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy today, after having announced it was shutting down operations over the weekend.
“Waitr Holdings Inc. (‘Company’) filed a petition for relief under Chapter 7 of the United States Bankruptcy Code on April 2, 2024, which resulted in the cessation of substantially all of its business activities,” the filing said.
Waitr started at McNeese State University in Lake Charles in 2013, before moving its operations to Lafayette in 2016. It changed its name to ASAP in 2022 as part of a settlement with Waiter.com who had sued Waitr over trademark infringement.
