City to host free tree and plant giveaway at Woodlawn Lake for Earth Day

SAN ANTONIO – Earth Day is Monday, April 22 and the City of San Antonio’s Parks and Recreation Department will celebrate with a tree and plant giveaway this weekend.

The giveaway will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, during the city’s big Earth Day 2024 event at Woodlawn Lake Park, 1103 Cincinnati Ave. The city’s website states the giveaway will include shade and ornamental trees.

Earth Day 2024 at Woodlawn is an official Fiesta event and will include family activities, dance and music performances, fishing and fitness opportunities, and about 70 community partners.

Visitors are asked to bring reusable water bottles, bags, containers, cloth napkins and utensils to help reduce waste.

Water refill stations will be available, and food vendors will provide compostable or biodegradable plates, cups and utensils.

  • Elotitos Corn Bar
  • Fat Tummy Empanadas
  • Go Vegan San Antonio
  • Makan Halal Cuisine
  • Rambler Sparkling Water (complimentary, while supplies last)
  • Rosa’s Kitchen
  • Rosa’s Rusas
  • The Cookie and Comfort Food Lady
  • The Pour Box Coffee

The event starts with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Anyone who participates in a survey will receive an official Parks and Recreation Fiesta medal, according to the city.

“Earth Day offers the community an opportunity to come together and celebrate nature, conservation, and sustainability while enjoying a free, fun-filled event,” the city’s website states.
