Javi Gracia insists he has only got fond memories of his time in England with both Watford and Leeds United. The Spaniard has been out of work since he was sacked by the Whites last year.

Gracia, appointed in February, was given his marching orders after just 10 weeks and 12 matches in charge at Elland Road. His first spell in this country was with Watford between January 2018 and September 2019.

Speaking in today's edition of AS via Sport Witness, Gracia said: “I have had the privilege of being able to enjoy the experience of training there in two teams and the memory is unforgettable. It was a wonderful time for me and my family, including my three children. Everything there is fantastic.

“Spain is my country, I have had the opportunity to manage several teams here and I value it a lot, but the English league has a different potential, so to speak.”

United are firmly in the hunt for promotion back to the Premier League. With three matches left to play, the Whites are two points shy of Championship leaders Ipswich Town.

Gracia admits he continues to follow the Premier League closely. "I enjoy and draw conclusions from watching everyone, even Luton, Sheffield or Burnley," said Gracia, who was replaced at the helm by Sam Allardyce as United failed to retain their top flight status. "Aside from those fighting for the title, who have overwhelming power, this season I am loving Brighton, Villa and Tottenham, who are showing a daring, innovative style, with high pressure, bravery and a high level of play."
