Who should be the Happy State Bank Male and Female Athletes of the Week?

Baseball and softball are in full gear and several area athletes shined recently at regional and state powerlifting meets to comprise the finalists for Happy State Bank male and female high school athlete of the week.

The Globe-News is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the Happy State Bank male and female Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close on Thursday and the winners will be announced thereafter.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. each Monday and can be submitted through email at sports@amarillo.com.

Please include statistics from the week's games and any pertinent information or honors.

Male Finalists

• Cutter Barr, Fort Elliott boys track & field — Barr claimed four medals in five events, winning gold in the 400, silver in the 100, and two bronze in the 200 and long jump, setting three personal bests at the Shamrock St. Patrick's Day Relays.

• Jaco Dawson, Bushland baseball — Dawson went 2 for 2 with four RBIs for the Falcons in a 12-1 run-rule win against Estacado.

• Ishmael Flores, Friona boys powerlifting — Flores won the 242 division at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association Region I Division 3 with a total of 1,620 lbs.

• Keegan Ireland, Dumas boys powerlifting — Ireland won the Texas High School Powerlifting Association Region I Division 2 championships at 242, with a total of 1,870 lbs.

• Kalub Ramirez, Hereford baseball — Ramirez struck out 14 batters in six shutout innings without a walk and added two hits for the Herd in a 6-0 win against Pampa.

• Bayler Schilling, Canyon baseball — Schilling threw a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks in a 7-0 win against Levelland in the Randy Keller Tournament.

Female Finalists

• Reyna Arias, Friona girls powerlifting — Arias finished second in the 181 division at the Class 3A Division 2 Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association state meet with a total of 940 lbs.

• Arionna Black, Canadian girls track & field — Black had a standout day at the Shamrock St. Patrick's Day Relays, winning the pole vault (8-feet, 6-inches), the 200 and as part of the Canadian gold medal 1,600-meter relay. She also set a personal best in the 400, clocking 1:00.8, finishing second.

• Vanessa Chavira, Perryton girls powerlifting — Chavira won the 165 division at the Class 4A Division 2 Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association state meet with a total of 1,020 lbs.

• Chloe Chilton, Childress girls track & field — Chilton won three events at the Shamrock St. Patrick's Day Relays winning the 200 and the triple jump and helping her team win the 800-meter relay. She also helped Childress take third in the 1,600 relay.

• Landri Holcomb, Randall softball — The Raiders catcher went 5 for 5 with three doubles and five RBIs in a run rule win against Dumas and added another double in Randall's win against West Plains.

• Madi Zubia, Dumas softball — Zubia smacked two home runs, went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and spun a two-hit five-inning shutout for the Demonettes in a 14-0 win against Hereford.
