EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Tropicale Foods is recalling more than 5,000 units of its Helados Mexico Mini Cream Variety Pack with best buy dates of “MO Best By 10/11/2025.”

According to the Rhode Island Department of Health, the mango bars are potentially contaminated with salmonella.

The best-by date can be found on the bottom of the box. The ice cream bars were sold at retailers in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine.

The Health Department says salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and potentially deadly infections in young children, elderly people or anyone with a weakened immune system.

Symptoms often include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, it can even cause endocarditis, arthritis and infected aneurysms.

The company is investigating the problem. Anyone who has the affected products should get rid of them. Anyone with questions can call the company at 909-563-3090.
