61-year-old cyclist killed in North Naples collision with SUV

A 61-year old cyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV in North Naples on Thursday night.

The driver, a 29-year-old man from Naples, was traveling north on US 41 as he approached a green light at the intersection of Wiggins Pass Road, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The victim, also a Naples man, entered the intersection ahead of the SUV on a bicycle traveling south on Wiggins Pass Road

The driver struck the cyclist, who sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.

The crash took place at 8:38 p.m., Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation.
