Alex Jones has revealed the shared passion that initially connected her and her husband Charlie Thomson. The One Show presenter and Charlie tied the knot in a gorgeous ceremony at Cardiff Castle on New Year's Eve in 2015 and share three children together.

However it was a "thirst for adventure" that saw the couple winding up together after meeting at a party in 2011. Alex opened up about the early days of their relationship on the podcast The Travel Diaries with Holly Rubenstein and said it was travel that saw the duo end up together.

Asked what kind of traveller she was Alex replied: "I've changed I guess because you change when a family becomes part of the picture but the thing I love about travel is being able to leave your daily life behind and you can become whoever you want to be in this new place." She then added: "I think the reason my husband and I are together is because he loves travelling – he is a little nomad."

Giving an insight into Charlie's love of travel Alex said: "He's from New Zealand and the fashion there is to leave at quite an early age and to come to Europe. His parents are English so he had family here and then he worked on some of the super-yachts in Palma and had a great time. He did many ski seasons." Sharing her nickname for her husband, the 47-year-old admitted: "I call him Judith Chalmers because everywhere I suggest he says he's been there so it's quite difficult to find places he hasn't been."

Alex – who shares children Teddy, seven, Kit, four, and two-year-old Annie with Charlie – continued: "He doesn't mind [going back to a place] if he loved it or if he thinks it might be a different holiday now with the children, or with a different budget, and that's quite nice actually to go back and do it slightly differently." She candidly added: "He is a huge fan of travel and sometimes he pushes me out of my comfort zone but I think that's what connected us is that thirst for adventure."

During the interview Alex also shared her love of Pembrokeshire, revealing the Welsh coastline was her earliest memory of holidaying alongside her mum, dad, and sister in their VW caravanette. She said: "My first memories are camping and doing the whole coast of Pembrokeshire in Wales. I remember being in a place called Solva, which is a very pretty place, and it was so windy – we were eating beans on toast in the campervan and the whole roof started to come apart from the rest of the van because of the wind.

"Mum and dad are hardcore but we went home. There were lots of rainy weekends but my sister and I have the best memories of those times, going to wash dishes and get water, we absolutely loved it and it's something I would like to replicate in my children later on. I'm not brave enough to take them yet at two, four, and seven, but maybe in a couple of years that is something that we'll do."
