It has been a week since over 40 students at North Star High School were taken to the hospital prompting an investigation from local and federal officials.

Detective with the Somerset County bureau of investigation James Gregg said it was not until this week that the district attorney’s office started assisting the several others looking for a cause in this incident but said to this point it is still unknown.

Investigators said to their knowledge any students, parents, staff, or surrounding community members are safe and should continue being safe from any chemical or air quality issues.

Drugs have not been ruled out as a possible cause according to Gregg, but authorities do question how drugs could make that many students sick and said nobody that was on scene last Thursday indicated a presence of drugs.

They also said they do not have toxicology from any of the students.

But a student said they were tested with elevated carbon monoxide levels at the hospital and said they know of another student with higher levels that was on oxygen.

Although the Department of Health saying earlier this week that carbon monoxide poisoning is "an unlikely explanation for this event."

Gregg said they are looking for community help if possible and anyone that may have information can report it to the school resource officer, Boswell Borough police, or the county bureau of investigation.
