CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The sunshine around the area today returns for the second half of the weekend as our warming trend begins.

Mainly clear skies this evening will allow for temperatures to fall into the upper 20s and low 30s across the area.

Clear skies will take over Sunday before high-level clouds drift in from west to east through the afternoon.

Daytime highs will be into the mid and upper 50s Sunday.

The high clouds signal changes on the way for Monday as we track rain chances overnight Sunday into Monday morning.

The rain will clear out west to east through the morning but the big challenge with the forecast is how quickly dry air filters in and helps to clear out the low cloud cover.

Some low clouds to the east are possible as the partial eclipse begins around 2 PM. How quickly these clouds clear will be important. That said, we don’t anticipate overcast conditions in Northeast Ohio during the eclipse. Partly cloudy conditions and decreasing clouds overall is the trend as we near totality after 3 PM. Some high-level clouds may be present for areas south of the lakeshore, but at most, we anticipate it to just add a bit of a hazy filter to our sky with the eclipse still visible through the high-level cirrus clouds.

As of this writing, all hope is not lost for visibility in Northeast Ohio for the total solar eclipse. The trends are that if you live west of Cleveland, you stand the best chance of seeing the least amount of cloud cover in our sky. Central and southern zones may have a few clouds here and there, but high-level cirrus clouds may be the biggest battle. Areas east of Cleveland cloud have more partly cloudy conditions but gradual clearing of the clouds east of our area anticipated as the afternoon goes on during the solar eclipse.

Keep checking back with the team for updates as we continue to gather new data on the morning rain chances and cloud cover forecast for Monday.

By the time we get to first pitch (5:10 PM) for the Guardians game against the White Sox, mainly clear conditions are expected in Downtown Cleveland with temperatures staying in the 50s and 60s through the game.

Rain chances build in again Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as an active stretch takes over.

Temperatures will be unseasonably warm to start the week with a gradual cooling trend by next weekend.
