Lenor-Rhyne’s new head basketball coach Brent Owen is wasting no time in his new post, announcing the addition of four transfers to the roster on Monday. Junior Hodnett, Jaxon Koroll, Conrad Luczynski and Shem Sawy have all officially signed with the Bears and will play at Lenoir-Rhyne beginning in the 2024-25 season.
Hodnett is a 6-foot-3-inch junior guard coming from Eastern New Mexico. He shot 42% from downtown and averaged 9.1 PPG off the bench for the Greyhounds last season.
Koroll is a 7-foot sophomore. Last year, as a freshman at Eastern New Mexico he averaged 13 rebounds per 40 minutes. Luczunski is a 7-foot-3-inch sophomore center coming from Eastern New Mexico. He played in all 32 games last season averaging 6.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Sawy is a 6-foot-8-inch wing from Edge Prep in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Brown breaks DII record twice
The NCAA Division II record in the 100 meters only lasted for a few hours Saturday afternoon. Alexis Brown of Lenoir-Rhyne first broke the record in the prelims of the Southside Power and Fitness Invitational, clocking in at 11.16. Then, in the finals, she broke her own mark, running it in 11.09. She was more than a half second ahead of her closest competitor.
For her performance in the meet, Brown was named USTFCCCA national athlete of the week and South Atlantic Conference women’s track athlete of the week.
In addition to her record-breaking 100-meter performances, Brown also anchored the first-place women’s 4x100 team and won the 200-meter dash.
Jacob Wadsworth was named SAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for his performance in the meet. A senior from Dansville, N.Y., Wadsworth took first in the long jump and second in the high jump. Both marks were school records.
Men’s lacrosse earns first-round bye
The Lenoir-Rhyne men’s lacrosse team closed its home regular-season schedule with a 14-4 win over Coker on Saturday.
After a seesaw start, the Bears tallied eight unanswered goals to pull away and earn their sixth-straight victory. They finished the regular season with a perfect 7-0 home record and earned a two-seed and a first round bye in the South Atlantic Conference tournament. LR will be in action again at Moretz Stadium on April 24 in a SAC tournament semifinal match.
For his performance in the game, Nate Ashley was named SAC defensive player of the week. A senior from Bradenton, Fla., Ashley recorded four ground balls and four caused turnovers in the victory.
Baseball nets two player of the week awards
LR Baseball took both games of a doubleheader over Wingate on Saturday to win their first road conference series of the season.
In game one, LR produced two RBI hits in the 11th inning to break the tie and win the game 14-12. In game two, the LR defense took over and the Bears won 7-1 in seven innings.
For their performances this week, Tyler McPeak was named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week while Kellen Gradisar was named pitcher of the week.
A senior first basemen from Denver, McPeak went .636 from the plate, including a four-hit, four-run performance in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Gradisar, a freshman pitcher from Missouri City, Texas, tossed his first career complete game in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader. He gave up six hits and one earned run in seven innings of work while striking out six.
