Man Utd fans make feelings known over Erik ten Hag future with boss under threat

Man Utd fans have had their say over whether Erik ten Hag should face the sack or enter a third season as manager.

will be weighing up future as the club's manager as they stare directly in the face of a disastrous season, which could end with no trophies or qualification. Express Sport readers have had their say about whether and should make a change in the Old Trafford dugout this summer.

Ten Hag was set up for further progression in his second season in charge after enjoying a successful start to life at United, signing a three-year contract in the summer of 2022.

The Dutchman ended the club's six-year trophy drought by lifting the Carabao Cup in January 2023, beating Newcastle United 2-0 in the final at Wembley Stadium.

He also took United to the FA Cup final but fell short in a closely fought 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the competition's first-ever Manchester derby final.

The Red Devils sealed a Champions League return by finishing third in the Premier League, which proved to be the cherry on top of a bright start of the Ten Hag era.

However, his second campaign at the helm couldn't have been more contrasting, which has pulled his position under intense scrutiny.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's £1.3billion deal for a 27.7 per cent stake and control of football operations has added an extra dimension through claims that INEOS could want a fresh start regardless.

Among Express Sport's readers, 55 per cent want Ratcliffe to retain faith in Ten Hag as the man for the job and allow him to enter a third season as United manager.

On the flip side, 45 per cent have had enough of the ex-Ajax boss and want to see a change in the Old Trafford dugout in the first full season of the INEOS regime.

While in the minority, frustration among supporters is justified. United's Carabao Cup defence ended at the second hurdle with a 3-0 defeat at home against Newcastle in the fourth round.

The Champions League campaign was even more disastrous, with Ten Hag's side managing just one win from their six games to finish rock-bottom of Group A.

FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray finished in second and third as United squandered leads for fun and required a last-gasp Andre Onana penalty save for their sole victory against the Danish giants.

Ten Hag retains hope in the FA Cup after an incredible 4-3 win against Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

A semi-final against Coventry City at Wembley Stadium stands in the way of a second successive final against one of their opponents in their previous two such games, City or Chelsea.

But even a 13th FA Cup might not rescue Ten Hag, with United looking increasingly likely to miss out on Champions League qualification, despite the top-five Premier League teams likely earning a place.
