WAYNE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A suspect was arrested after a manhunt in Wayne County.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were sent Monday afternoon to a home on Daisy Way, just off Kentucky Highway 1275 South for a domestic violence assault in progress call.

Deputies say the people there told them Richard D. Baker Jr. had assaulted a relative, firing several shots with a gun while several other people were there, including children.

Baker left before the deputies arrived.

Multiple units from different agencies responded to the area to look for him.

After a search of about a two-mile area, the sheriff’s office says Baker was seen running towards the Tradeway Shopping Center. He was then found in a briar patch next to the shopping center.

Baker was taken into custody without incident. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries he received while on the run from law enforcement and then to the Wayne County Detention Center.

The search lasted about two hours.

Baker is facing six counts of wanton endangerment, two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, alcohol intoxication in a public place and assault.
