Man arrested for attempted rape, attempted kidnapping at Boaz apartment complex

BOAZ, Ala. (WHNT) – A man was arrested after police say he was found attempting to sexually assault a woman at an apartment complex in Boaz.

Douglas Heath Swearengin was charged with first-degree rape and first-degree kidnapping.

According to the Boaz Police Department (BPD), officers responded to the Sundown Apartment Complex on College Avenue for an active assault call during the early morning hours on Saturday, April 13.

When they arrived on scene, BPD said officers found Swearengin “actively attempting to sexually assault an adult female victim.”

The department said it detained Swearengin quickly, gathered statements from witnesses and the victims and contacted detectives.

Following the investigation, detectives obtained felony warrants for Swearengin. He was arrested and taken to the Marshall County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $60,000 bond.
