They say your wedding day should be the happiest day of your life.

So one happy couple took that maxim to the next level on Saturday as they got married dressed as their favourite Star Wars and Marvel characters.

Cosplay lovers Rob and Kat Pinkey, from Stubbington, both have a long-held passion for the movies, and spend their weekends travelling across the country, helping to raise money for various charities by dressing up in cosplay costumes.

So when it came to planning outfits for their big day, they shunned the traditional white dress and three-piece suit for stormtroopers, Harley Quinn and the Joker.

The dress code for their guests was similarly cosplay-themed.

Speaking to the Echo, Rob, 52, who spends his day job as a telephone engineer, said: “We’re really happy with how it’s turned out, there are people in cosplay here today who have never done it before – about six or seven of them – everyone that’s got involved has made it a really memorable day today. It’s absolutely fantastic.”

The couple met five years ago to the day, at a Cancer Research event, tying the knot with a reception at the Holiday Inn in Fareham.

Kat, nee Richardson, was dressed as Black Cat from Marvel's Spiderman, with eight Harley Quinn bridesmaids, whilst Rob was a Storm Trooper from Star Wars.

Since they first met, the couple have participated in charity work, raising money for the likes of Autism All Stars and Retro By Ronnie, the latter of which is a vintage toy shop in Worthing.

Kat, 46, who works for Royal Mail, said: “We love what we do and enjoy travelling wherever we can to do that.”

The couple’s cosplay also extends to their home life.

Last Christmas they decorated their house with dozens of Christmas lights, and dressed up as Star Wars characters, inviting families to have their picture taken with some of their heroes – with donations going to an autism charity.

Rob added: “We always decorate our house every year but last year we put so many lights on, we invited people to come round and have their picture taken with stormtroopers, Princess Leia, Chewie, and Boba Fett.

“We did it for three hours and raised just short of £100 for charity and people were really generous. All the money went to Autism All Stars.”

Following their wedding, the couple are hopeful of honeymooning in Verona, Italy.
