Motorcyclist hit patrol car at Cody Road and Zeigler Boulevard, according to crash report

UPDATE (1:25 P.M.): The Mobile Police Department has released a new statement about the deadly crash involving a motorcycle and a Mobile PD patrol car.

The statement comes after media outlets, including WRKG News 5, provided the full traffic report on the crash.

“At this time, the accident report has been approved by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA),” an MPD news release stated.

The MPD also confirmed the current status of the officer involved in the crash.

“Earlier this month, the officer was placed on administrative duty,” the statement said. “The officer is still on administrative duty pending the completion of the internal investigation.

“No additional information is available at this time.”

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A fatal crash involving a motorcyclist and a Mobile Police officer on March 29 has raised concern about what happened during the incident. A new report may shed some light on that night.

It says the motorcyclist, 67-year-old Robert Sayen, hit the patrol car.

According to the report, the Mobile Police officer was speeding down Zeigler Boulevard when he reached the intersection of Zeigler and Cody Road.

The report said the speed limit on Zeigler was 40 miles per hour, and the officer’s estimated speed was 56 miles per hour.

The traffic lights were allegedly blinking at the time, with the lights on Zeigler Boulevard flashing yellow and the lights on Cody Road flashing red.

The report said the officer was traveling west on Zeigler Boulevard in the outside lane and Sayen was traveling north on Cody Road when the motorcycle hit the patrol car on the driver’s side door.

Sayen was thrown from his motorcycle and later died at a hospital.

The officer received bruises and complained that his left ribs and legs were hurting, according to the report.

911 calls made after the crash by witnesses were previously released by MPD when questions began to arise.

The officer was placed on administrative duty.
