Arizona Republic HS baseball Players of the Week: April 8-13; vote in poll

As we head into the stretch run of the Arizona high school baseball season, several players are emerging in the clutch.

Here are The Republic's top players from April 8-13. Coaches nominated players. Please vote in the poll.

Top 10 Players of the Week

1. A.J. Diaz, Hamilton, Utility, Sr.

He went 5-for-11 with six RBIs, picked up a save and pitched six strong innings in an 8-3 win over Liberty.

2. Mason Russell, Casteel, LHP, Sr.

He pitched a six-inning, no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Wesleyan Christian in the first round of the National High School Baseball Invitational in North Carolina. The Arizona signee struck out 10. It was only the second no-hitter in the history of the prestigious tournament.

3. Bryan Lorenz, Northwest Christian, 3B/1B, Sr.

In three games, he was 6-for-10 with three home runs and eight RBIs.

4. Nate Carrillo, Horizon, RHP/C, Sr.

On the week, he hit .454 and pitched a 2-1, complete-game win over Desert Mountain, striking out 11.

5. Brett Crossland, Mountain Pointe, P, Sr.

He pitched seven innings for the win against Higley, striking out 11, walking none and giving up three hits.

6. Noah Allison, Poston Butte, SS, Sr.

In wins over ALA Gilbert North and Eastmark, he was 4-for-6 with two home runs, a double and three RBIs, batting leadoff. Allison is hitting .513 with 40 hits, 11 doubles, five triples and six home runs.

7. Jake Gorrell, Red Mountain, INF, Sr.

He went 4-for-5 with five RBIs and three doubles.

8. Cade Shumard, Saguaro, LHP/OF, Sr.

He struck out 11 through four innings in a win over Marcos de Niza. He was 5-for-9 with seven RBIs and a walk.

9. Cam Caminiti, Saguaro, LHP/OF, Sr.

He struck out 10 in five innings in an 11-5 win over Mesquite. He was 4 for 8 with a triple, three RBIs and three walks.

10. Carter Macanas, Desert Ridge, So.

The Arizona State commit was 7-for-11 with four RBIs.

Honorable mention

Daniel Contreras, Santa Cruz, P, So.

He pitched a no-hitter against St. Augustine in an 11-0 win, striking out nine, walking two.

Ky McGary, Sandra Day O'Connor, Sr.

He had six hits, two doubles and three RBIs in three wins.

Jesus Vega, Copper Canyon, C, Jr.

Against Buckeye, in an 11-4 win, he went 3-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base and two RBIs.

Luke Girard, Campo Verde, RHP, Jr.

In four innings of relief, he pitched scoreless ball, striking out four in wins over Williams Field and Horizon.
