Marietta SWAT standoff: 2 dead after man wanted for stolen weapons barricades self

MARIETTA, Ga. - A SWAT standoff on Amy Drive NE in Marietta has come to a tragic end.

A viewer called the tip into the FOX 5 newsroom Saturday evening saying Marietta police and local SWAT teams were calling out for Michael Allen Reno to come out with his hands up.

Police said they tried to pull him over at around 4 p.m. for either driving with stolen plates or driving a stolen car. Reno fled to Amy Drive NE. Officers tried to coax him out of the vehicle, when he ran out of the car, into a home and barricaded himself inside.

That's when they learned Reno was also wanted in a series of thefts of guns and large amounts of cash. They believed he was armed.

"It's our goal to make sure we get him in our custody without harm to him or anyone else," said Officer Chuck McPhilamy before 10 p.m. "Knowing that he is a suspect for quite a large amount of weapons, certainly it has everyone here playing it safe and trying to go as methodically as we can."

Immediate neighbors were evacuated as officers continued their efforts to negotiate. At one point, they began blasting loud sounds from outside, unsure if Reno could hear them from inside the home.

At 10:15 p.m., police sent in drones to scope out the scene. By 10:40 p.m., McPhilamy said operators forced their way into the back of the home and found two people dead – a woman and the suspect, Reno.

Marietta police originally told FOX 5 this was not a hostage situation. It's not clear whether the woman was a second suspect, a hostage, or some sort of otherwise victim.
