BU routs Maine, advances to epic Hockey East championship clash vs. top-seeded BC

Their last appearance on Causeway Street was a nightmare, an overtime loss to Northeastern in the Beanpot final.

This time was doggie heaven for Boston University’s growling varsity, a 4-1 victory over Maine on Friday night at TD Garden that put the Terriers into Saturday’s Hockey East championship game against archrival Boston College in a matchup of the nation’s top two teams.

“It was obviously a big win for us,” said BU coach Jay Pandolfo after his opportunistic group used power-play goals by Lane Hutson and Ryan Greene and 32 saves from goaltender Mathieu Caron to squelch a bunch of Black Bears who clawed at them all night.
