The City of Canal Winchester and COSI, the Center of Science and Industry, invite community members to the “How Do You STEAM?” expo happening on Thursday, May 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Canal Winchester Community Center (45 E. Waterloo St.). This event is one of many occurring in Central Ohio as part of the COSI Science Festival, Ohio’s largest STEM/STEAM event.

The expo isn’t just about careers; it’s about celebrating the science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) we encounter every day! From parks and sports to food and hobbies, we’ll showcase how STEAM weaves through the fabric of our lives. Visitors will enjoy free, hands-on demonstrations and giveaways from local businesses. The event is open to the public, although it is best suited for ages 7-10 years old. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Stop by between 4 and 6 PM to engage with the STEAM experts.

Vendors include:

  • City of Canal Winchester Public Works
  • Diley Ridge Medical Center
  • Square Canvas
  • OSU Extension - Franklin & Fairfield Counties
  • Franklin Soil & Water Conservation District

For more STEAM fun, be sure to check out COSI's Big Science Celebration on Saturday, May 4. Experience over 100 exhibitor stations with hands-on science hosted by STEAM professionals, researchers, and experts from Central Ohio and beyond. This exciting, free experience is located on the Scioto Peninsula, surrounding COSI, and takes place on the last day of the COSI Science Festival. For more information, visit cosiscifest.org.

Take Back Day

The City of Canal Winchester and Diley Ridge Medical Center, in cooperation with the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will host a National Prescription Drug Take Back event on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Diley Ridge Medical Center parking lot, 7911 Diley Road.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Since 2010, DEA, along with its law enforcement partners, has collected over 17 million pounds of unneeded medications.

Canal Winchester’s collection site is set up in a convenient stop and drop model, allowing those discarding unwanted prescription drugs to remain in their vehicles, drop medications with collection agents, and continue on their way.

The City of Canal Winchester thanks partners and volunteers who have locally assisted in the DEA program, with special thanks to Diley Ridge Medical Center for use of their property.

Collectors may only accept pills. Liquids (including inhalers and their refills), as well as needles or sharps, may not be dropped off. The service is free and anonymous. No questions will be asked.

For a list of additional collection sites in other communities, visit www.DEATakeBack.com.
