WACO, Texas (KWTX/Gray News) - A woman broke into a home and tried to snatch a 6-week-old baby from its mother’s arms, according to officials in Texas.

Tierra Mitchell, 27, is charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a felony, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Authorities said an officer with the Texas State Technical College Police Department responded to a call just before noon on Tuesday at a home just south of the college campus.

The officer learned Mitchell entered the home through an unlocked back door and attempted to take the baby from its mother’s arms, according to the affidavit.

The mother allegedly fought off Mitchell and called the police for help.

Police said Mitchell did not know the family.
