Colder temperatures, wet snow expected with spring storm; Winter Storm Warnings in place

Increasing clouds and breezy winds continue today as highs only warm into the 40s and 50s.

Isolated rain and snow showers are developing later this afternoon, but more widespread activity is expected overnight into Wednesday.

A wintry mix of rain and snow will change to all snow Tuesday night. Snow levels will drop to the valley floor, with up to an inch of snow will be possible on raised surfaces west of the divide.

Higher snow amounts are expected along the divide and for higher valleys of southwest Montana. Southwest Montana valleys, including Bozeman, could see 1 to 4 inches of wet snow.

Heavy wet snow will likely impact travel over mountain passes. Plan ahead and be prepared for winter driving conditions the next few days.

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories will begin Tuesday evening. Details can be found below.

Unseasonably cold temperatures are expected through the middle of the week. Low temperatures will be in the 20s Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Daytime highs Wednesday will be in the 30s and 40s. Low temperatures will be their coldest Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Lows will fall into the teens and 20s.

A gradual warm-up is expected through the weekend, but lows will continue to flirt with freezing.

WINTER STORM WARNING in effect from 6 PM Tuesday until 6PM Wednesday for Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains. Including the following locations: Big Sky, Raynolds Pass, West Yellowstone, and Targhee Pass. Total snow accumulations between 7 and 14 inches, except 2 to 4 inches along the Montana Idaho border, including the West Yellowstone area.

WINTER STORM WARNING in effect from 6 PM Tuesday until 6 PM Thursday for the Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains. Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 10 and 16 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph creating significant blowing snow.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect from 6 PM Tuesday until 6 AM Wednesday for West Glacier Region above 3,500 feet. Snow expected above 3,500 feet. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches with up to 9 inches for the higher elevations of Glacier National Park. Generally less than one inch for the lowest elevations.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect from 6 PM Tuesday until 11 AM Wednesday for Butte/Blackfoot Region. Snow expected. Total snow accumulations 1 to 2 inches MacDonald Pass and Georgetown Lake. Less than an inch at Butte, Homestake Pass and the rest of the valley areas.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect until 6 AM Wednesday for East Glacier Park Region, including Marias Pass. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 7 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect from 9 PM Tuesday until noon Wednesday for the Rocky Mountain Front, Southern High Plains, Upper Blackfoot, Gates of the Mountains, Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, Big Belt, Bridger and Castle Mountains. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches in the mountains and 1 to 3 inches at lower elevations.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect from 9 PM Tuesday until noon Wednesday for the Cascade County below 5,000ft, Judith Basin County and Judith Gap, Snowy and Judith Mountains, and the Gallatin Valley, including the following locations: Bozeman, Great Falls, Benchland, Gallatin Gateway, Windham, Geyser, Moccasin, Stanford, Raynesford, and Hobson. Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect from 6 PM Tuesday until 6 AM Thursday for Northern Park County, Paradise Valley and Livingston Area, including Emigrant, Springdale, Wilsall, Clyde Park, and Livingston. Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches.
