WWE News: Massive SmackDown Matches Reported With Potential WWE Backlash 2024 Implications

Two huge matches have been reported for SmackDown tonight, which could have WWE Backlash 2024 implications.

A couple of big matches have been reported for this evening's episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown.

Tonight's post-WrestleMania 40 edition of the blue brand will emanate from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Already advertised for the show are appearances from the newly-minted world champions of SmackDown Cody Rhodes and Bayley.

While no matches have been made official for the show, a report notes that there will be two matches with major championship implications.

WrestleVotes is reporting that two triple threat matches will be featured on tonight's episode of SmackDown. Those reported matches are Kevin Owens vs. Rey Mysterio vs. AJ Styles and Bobby Lashley vs. LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar. The report notes that the winners of these triple threat matches will face off next week for a shot at the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

It looks like this will determine who faces Cody Rhodes at the WWE Backlash PLE in France on May 4th. It's important to note that the report did not mention when the new number one contender will get that title match.

As of now, WWE has not announced any matches for WWE Backlash France. We'll keep you posted once some marquee matches are made official for WWE's first PLE after WrestleMania 40, and whether or not the winner of next week's reported contender bout will indeed face Cody Rhodes for the gold at Backlash.
