Instead of starting with drawing diagrams, get into projects and conversations about how to improve people’s experiences with different things and in various scenarios. How to improve patients’ experiences in hospital queues. How to improve teachers’ experience when marking tedious piles of papers. How to improve mums’ experiences at the airport. Etcetera. Tackle many such problems. Doing so will strengthen your user experience thinking. Remember, designing user experience does not start with sketches, neither is it about that. It starts with, and indeed is about, solid thinking that will actually lead to good user experience.
