Purdue Celebrates Record-Breaking Season Ending in Final Four Run

THE FINAL NOTES TO KNOW
• The Purdue Boilermakers finished their season in the National Championship game for the first time since 1969, falling to top-ranked and the No. 1 overall seed Connecticut, 75-60, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
• Purdue's 34 wins set a school record and were the second most in the country behind Connecticut's 37 victories.
• Purdue secured its second straight NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed and its fifth No. 1 seed in school history.
• Purdue and Kansas are the only schools in America to have a top-5 seed in each of the last eight NCAA Tournaments.
• Purdue set school records in points (3,211), rebound margin (+11.2), assists (720), assist / turnover ratio (1.63), field goals made (1,109), free throws made (675) and free throw attempts (938). 
• Over the last seven seasons, Purdue has ranked in the top four in offensive efficiency four different times (2018, 2019, 2022, 2024). 
• Since the start of the 2021-22 season, Purdue's 92 victories (92-19) rank second in the country. Over the last four years, Purdue's 79.1 winning percentage (110-29) ranks third in the country behind Houston (.868) and Gonzaga (.860). 
• Over the last three seasons, Purdue is 20-6 (.769) against nationally-ranked teams, the best winning percentage against ranked teams during that span by over 100 percentage points (UConn, .656). 
• Over the last eight seasons (since 2016-17), Purdue owns a 113-42 Big Ten record, the league's best record by a whopping 16 games (Michigan State; 97-58).
• Purdue's nine straight NCAA Tournament appearances are the fourth-longest active streak in the country (Kansas - 34; Michigan State - 26; Gonzaga - 25). 
• Since the 2016-17 season (7 seasons), Purdue's five appearances in the Sweet 16 are the second most in the country (Gonzaga - 7).
• Purdue is one of six schools to make at least two Elite Eight appearances in the last five years (Gonzaga - 4; Duke - 3; Purdue - 2; Connecticut - 2; Arkansas - 2; Miami, Fla. - 2). 
• Purdue is one of seven schools to have made at least 15 NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 17 seasons (Gonzaga, Kansas, Michigan State, Duke, Purdue, Wisconsin, North Carolina). 
• Purdue ranked second in the country in 3-point percentage (.404), one year after ranking 281st (.322). 
• Purdue finished 10-1 against nationally-ranked teams, including an 8-1 record against teams ranked in the AP's top 12. 
• Purdue's 59 Big Ten wins over the last four seasons tied a record for most wins in a four-year span in conference history.
• Purdue 17 Big Ten wins were tied for the third most in a season in Big Ten history.
• Purdue has finished in the top four of the Big Ten standings in 14 of the last 18 seasons under Matt Painter. It has finished in the top three of the league standings in eight of the last 10 seasons.
• Purdue became the first Big Ten team ever to be ranked No. 1 in three straight seasons. 
• Purdue has been ranked in the top five of the AP poll in 37 straight weeks -- the longest streak in the Big Ten in almost 50 years.
• Purdue went undefeated at Mackey Arena this season and will carry a 17-game home win streak into next season -- the sixth-longest active streak in the county. The Boilermakers will also carry a 26-game home non-conference win streak into next season, the third-longest streak in school history.
• The Boilermakers rank second nationally in rebound margin (behind Saint Mary's) at +11.2. Purdue led the country a year ago (+10.8).
• Purdue went 27-1 when it has 13 or fewer turnovers on the season. The Boilermakers are 7-4 when they have 14 or more turnovers.
• Purdue is 40-1 (Nebraska; Jan. 2024) in its last 41 games when making 10 or more 3-pointers. Purdue made 11 in the win over Utah State.
Zach Edey was named the unanimous National Player of the Year for the second straight, becoming the first player since Bill Walton (1972, 1973) to be a back-to-back unanimous National Player of the Year. 
Zach Edey set a Big Ten record with 12 Big Ten Player of the Week honors for his career. 
Zach Edey's 983 points and 474 rebounds were the second most in Big Ten history in both categories. He joins Houston's Elvin Hayes in 1968 as the only players in NCAA history to have those numbers in a season. 
Zach Edey's 436 free throw attempts were tied for the second most in a season in NCAA history, behind Furman's Frank Selvy (444 in 1954). However, Selvy shot free throws when every foul called resulted in free throw attempts.
Zach Edey also finished the season 22nd in NCAA history in points (983), seventh in free throws made (316), 11th in rebounds since 1973 (474) and fourth in double-doubles (30). 
Zach Edey finished his career as one of eight players in NCAA history to have at least 2,500 career points and 1,300 rebounds. He is the first since La Salle's Lionel Simmons (1987-90). 
Zach Edey's 177 points in this year's NCAA Tournament were tied for the second most by a single player in NCAA Tournament history. His 87 rebounds in NCAA Tournament play this season were the eighth most for a single player in NCAA Tournament history.
Zach Edey is the first player in NCAA Tournament history to have seven straight games of 20 points and 10 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament. David Robinson is next on the list with five straight games. 
Zach Edey became the first player to lead the country in scoring and reach a Final Four since Oscar Robertson in 1960.
Braden Smith became the second player in NCAA history with at least 450 points, 275 assists and 200 rebounds in a season (BYU's Kyle Collinsworth - 2016).
Braden Smith became the Big Ten's all-time, single-season leader in assists with 292. His 292 assists are the eighth most by any player this century and the third most for a sophomore or younger in NCAA history.
Lance Jones' 80, 3-pointers this season are tied for the 12th most in a season in Purdue history.
Mason Gillis' 46.8 percent from 3-point range was the fifth-best percentage in Purdue history. His 40.7 career 3-point percentage ranks seventh all-time.
