A Severn man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for striking three pedestrians with his vehicle and repeatedly hitting a parked SUV with two women inside, according to the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The incident occurred after an altercation outside the Cancun Cantina last summer, State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said.

34-year-old Adam Wolford was sentenced to 75 years with all but 15 suspended, according to the SAO. He was also ordered five years of supervised probation upon release.

“A bruised ego and intoxication led the defendant to use his vehicle as a weapon to target innocent victims whose lives were forever changed while simply trying to enjoy a summer evening with friends,” Leitess said. “The victims survived this attack, but continue to recover mentally and physically, with future surgeries in store. This was more than a drunk driving case, and the sentence ensures that he is held accountable.”

On June 4, 2023, just before 2 a.m., Anne Arundel County Police responded to the intersection of Dorsey Rd. and Old Telegraph Rd. for a hit-and-run involving multiple pedestrians.

At the scene, officers found a man laying facedown on Dorsey Rd. near the entrance of the 7-Eleven store and two additional victims laying in the parking lot with multiple injuries, according to the SAO. All three victims were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment.

According to witnesses, Wolford got into his Jeep Cherokee and began driving erratically around the parking lot before turning the vehicle toward a group standing outside, the SAO said.

Clubgoers fled on food for safety, with some retreating to their vehicles. Two women escaped into their SUV before Wolford began ramming the vehicle with his Jeep, according to the SAO.

After hitting the SUV, Wolford entered the parking lot of the 7-Eleven across the street and struck three pedestrians, sending some into the air.

He returned and hit the SUV again before fleeing the scene, the SAO said.

Officers located the Jeep about a mile from the scene, with Wolford laying on the grass across the road, according to the SAO.

Police noted multiple signs of impairment, including slurred speech and the odor of alcohol.

Wolford entered a guilty plea to five counts of first-degree assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
