Weather experts at the Met Office have issued a warning to gardeners ahead of a dip in temperature.

While spring is known as the season for the green-fingered among us get to work on our outdoor spaces. Lawns are mown and seeds are planted, but this year the start of spring has been a bit of a damp squib.

Temperatures have struggled to rise as March turned to April, and the Met Office indicated some frost is likely overnight on Tuesday (April 16).

In a new post on X, the Met Office said: "Gardeners be aware, there will be some chilly nights this week. Tonight we could see a touch of frost in rural spots"

We can expect lows of 6C that feel more like 2C overnight in Liverpool, with things staying cool throughout Wednesday after a "generally dry, sunny albeit chilly start to the day". There'll be highs of 10C later on, however, this will feel more like 6C.

The Met Office outlook from Thursday to Saturday reads: "Starting dry on Thursday, but some rain arriving through the afternoon. Drier on Friday with sunny intervals, these increasingly lengthy by Saturday.

"Some chilly nights, but feeling warmer by day." Saturday is likely to be the warmest day, with highs of 11C and a real feel of 9C.
