Where to watch the 2024 total solar eclipse in Pensacola

Unlike the 2017 total solar eclipse, Pensacola’s watch party options have dwindled to just a handful. However, that should not stop you from taking a strategic break to catch the last glimpse of an eclipse like this for the next 20 years.

Here’s a look at some eclipse watch parties you can join in Pensacola.

Perdido Key Beachfront Eclipse Brown Bag Bash

  • When: 1-2 p.m. April 8
  • Where: 15500 Perdido Key Drive (on the boardwalk, across from the Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce)

Join the Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce for an unforgettable experience at the Beachfront Eclipse Brown Bag Bash. Bring your lunch, a beach towel or a chair and get ready to witness a rare solar eclipse from the Perdido Key State Park Beach located across from the Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce Office.

The chamber will provide eclipse glasses to ensure you can safely observe this rare celestial event. Admission to the state park beach access is only $3 per person.

Solar Eclipse Paddle

  • When: 1:30-2:30 p.m. April 8
  • Where: Glow Paddle, 165 Fort Pickens Road, Pensacola Beach

Join Glow Paddle for a unique eclipse experience. From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., you can paddle out to watch the 2024 solar eclipse from Pensacola Beach. Tickets for the event are $29, plus fees and tax, and include a pair of eclipse glasses.

Unveiling the Universe: A Solar Eclipse Viewing Featuring Stargo (open to faculty and students only)

  • When: 1-3 p.m. April 8
  • Where: Building 82, Campus Drive

Available to faculty, staff and students only, the University of West Florida is hosting the Unveiling the Universe: A Solar Eclipse Viewing featuring Stargo on April 8.

Stargo is an EVSCOPE 2 immersive smart telescope made possible by a collaboration between the 2023-24 LEAD: The Staff Version teamDepartment of Physics and Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering.

Solar eclipse protective eyeglasses, light refreshments and opportunities to view the eclipse utilizing Stargo will be provided.

UWF faculty, staff and students from all majors are encouraged to attend.

Total Solar Eclipse at Sir Richard's

  • When: Noon Monday
  • Where: Sir Richard's Public House, 2719 E. Cervantes St.

Head over to Sir Richard's on Monday to catch the eclipse. CE and ISO certified glasses will be distributed on a first come, first served basis until supplies run out.

Total Solar Eclipse at O'Riley's Downtown

  • When: Noon Monday
  • Where: O'Riley's Downtown, 321 S. Palafox St.

Head over to O'Riley's Downtown on Monday to catch the eclipse. CE and ISO certified glasses will be distributed on a first come, first served basis until supplies run out. The downtown location will have $5 Sun Cruiser Hard Iced Teas for $5 and you can blackout any shot or cocktail.

  • When: Noon Monday
  • Where: O'Riley's Uptown, 3728 Creighton Road

Head over to O'Riley's Uptown on Monday to catch the eclipse. CE and ISO certified glasses will be distributed on a first come, first served basis until supplies run out.

What time is the eclipse? How long will it last?

Pensacola will see a partial eclipse starting at 12:36 p.m. on April 8. It will hit 50% of maximum coverage by 1:16 p.m., maximum coverage by 1:55 p.m., and end around 3:13 p.m.
