Texas A&M Women’s Golf Falls in SEC Championship Match

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BELLEAIR, Fla. – The No. 16 Texas A&M women’s golf team fell to Mississippi State, 3-2, in the title match of the 2024 SEC Championships on Tuesday at the Pelican Golf Club.

“We didn’t have our best today,” head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. “Blanca got off to a great start and put a point on the board for us and Cayetana had a lot of momentum the whole day. However, everyone else couldn’t quite get it going. Hats off to Mississippi State, they played great all day. We played great all week and I loved our chances going into the match. Incredibly proud of our team and looking forward to the rest of the season.”

The Fernández García-Poggio sisters, Blanca and Cayetana, earned dominant victories for the Aggies to start the match. Blanca Fernández García-Poggio won her bout, 7&6. The fifth-year senior went bogey free in her three matches this week to go a perfect 3-0.

Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio also went 3-0 in matches at the Pelican Golf Club, winning her tilt versus the Bulldogs, 4&3. Adela Cernousek, Zoe Slaughter and Jennie Park all fell in their matches versus Mississippi State to give the title to the Bulldogs.

The Maroon & White will return to the course May 6-8 at the Bryan Regional at The Traditions Club. The Aggies have made it to the semifinals of the NCAA Championships each of the past two years.
