The Milwaukie Police Department has a new chief. Ryan Burdick was sworn in on April 9, 2024, at the Milwaukie City Council meeting.

Chief Burdick joined Milwaukie Police in January 2002. He has served as a detective, and as a patrol Sergeant for about ten years, and as the Detective Sergeant.

Burdick was promoted to Operations Captain in 2019, the agency says.

Chief Burdick is responsible for implementing body-worn cameras in the department and starting an uncrewed aircraft systems (drone) program.

Ryan previously served four years of active duty in the Army as an M60 gunner and three years in the National Guard.

He has a BA in Accounting from Western Oregon University.
