Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors

Kelly Clarkson just treated fans to a special performance during the "Kellyoke" segment on her show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, on April 4.

Choosing to sing "Be Still" from her 2007 album My December, Clarkson, 41, delivered a powerful rendition of the throwback song that showcased her amazing vocals as usual. The performance stood out as the singer and TV show host usually covers other artists' hits during this segment of her show.

Fans were quick to comment on a video of the performance, posted on the show's YouTube shortly after airing, with fans saying things like, "My December is vastly underrated. I love this song." and "Justice for My December, best album ever. This one was for us, the fans. Please more! I could die right now that I would be happy "

Many brought up the nostalgic feelings this performance gave them, with one user commenting, "17 years later, I am in my own flat alone, not living with parents, and still crying at this beautiful song in the middle of the night. Like 17 years ago. " Another chimed in, mentioning bringing back these types of TV performances: "Aww hear me out here! We need to bring back Unplugged and Kelly performs these beautiful songs and tells the stories about them for two hours! I would be in the front row! I love the My December record so much! "

From the start, music was destined to be a cornerstone of The Kelly Clarkson Show, which premiered in September 2019. The American Idol winner made it a point to include her longtime touring band in the show, "My Band Y'all", ensuring that the musical performances carried the same energy and authenticity fans had come to expect from her live concerts.

The debut episode saw Clarkson energetically covering Dolly Parton's "9 to 5," setting the stage for what would become a beloved part of the program: the "Kellyoke" segment. In a 2019 interview with Vulture, Clarkson's longtime music director, Jason Halbert said, "So I brought [Clarkson] the idea of, 'Why don't we do a fan request every day?' She loved the idea, and I think we've been doing it since almost the very beginning. Whenever they were coming up with a concept for the show, that sort of morphed into 'Kellyoke.'"

It's safe to say the segment quickly captured the hearts of viewers and critics alike, with fans around the world praising Clarkson's ability to breathe new life into classics.
