A 16-year-old boy was charged with attempted murder after another teen was seriously hurt in a late-night stabbing.

The victim, also aged 16, is said to be in a "serious but stable" condition in hospital after being stabbed twice in the chest at around 10.20pm on Tuesday, April 9. His condition had previously been described as critical.

Police believe the stabbing happened on Hailsham Road in Aigburth. After being attacked, the teenager reportedly ran injured to an address on Woodlands Road.

Yesterday, April 10, police were stationed on Hailsham Road, where there was a cordon in place. Police vehicles were also seen on Woodlands Road.

The suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with attempted murder, Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article.

He was remanded and will appear at Liverpool Youth Remand Court tomorrow, April 12. A 16-year-old girl who was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder was bailed pending further enquiries.

A statement from Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that a 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in Aigburth.

"At around 10.20pm on Tuesday 9 April, we received a report that a 16-year-old boy had arrived at an address on Woodlands Road, in Aigburth, with two stab wounds to his chest.

"Emergency services attended and he was taken to hospital in a critical condition. He remains in hospital and his condition is now described as being serious but stable.

"As part of an ongoing investigation, it’s believed that the attack occurred on nearby Hailsham Road and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.

"A 16-year-old boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, has today, Thursday 11 April, been charged with attempted murder, Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article. He has been remanded and will appear in Liverpool Youth Remand Court tomorrow, Friday 12 April.

"A 16-year-old girl who was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been bailed pending further enquiries.
