PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Eric Knox is stepping down after 11 seasons at the helm of the Benson Polytechnic High School girls basketball team.

Knox, who led the team to the 2019 OSAA 6A girls basketball championship, made the announcement via the team’s Instagram page on Tuesday.

“The heights we achieved over my 11-year tenure would not have been possible without the leadership of Marshall Haskins and the PIL athletic department, our Principal Curtis Wilson, plus our administrators, counselors, and teachers,” said Knox.

“I’d also like to thank all our parents over a decade of my coaching that supported our coaching staff over the years and most importantly all the young ladies that turned our program into what it has become,” he said. “Finally, I would like to thank my family for being a part of this journey and being the backbone to my success.”

The Techsters made it the championship game of the 6A tournament again this season, where they lost to South Medford.

Knox played at Oregon State University from 1984-89, and was named to the then Pac-10 All-Freshman team in the 1984-85 season. In 2013 he founded HOLLA, a Portland mentorship program aiming to empower students of color.
