How To Watch 15 Deleted Scenes From HBO’s ‘The Sopranos’

Following

It’s been 25 years since the first episode aired of the HBO classic series The Sopranos and 17 years since we bid farewell to Tony Soprano and the family. Oh, that last scene!

The family met at a diner, and there was an abrupt cut to black, leaving us bereft and wanting answers as to what happened: Were they killed? Or not? We may never know the answer to that burning question.

Every fan seems to have a theory on what happened to our favorite crime family. It is one of the most famous scenes in television history.

To celebrate The Sopranos' 25th Anniversary, Max is streaming never-before-released footage that equates to five hours of additional content.

The groundbreaking HBO original drama series, created by David Chase, was a fan favorite and an awards darling that aired on HBO from 1999 to 2007. We fell in love with the late James Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano, a New Jersey mob boss who went to therapy to deal with his inner demons.

Tony was a fully fleshed out, albeit deeply flawed, character that audiences could relate to, and though he committed heinous crimes, we saw beyond that. We saw his humanity.

The show made massive stars out of its ensemble cast, many of whom were largely unknown at the show's outset. In addition to Gandolfini, Lorraine Bracco, Edie Falco, Michael Imperioli, and Drea de Matteo were just a few of the cast members who became household names.

And, of course, viewers loved watching Steven Van Zandt, known for playing the guitar and mandolin in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, portray Tony’s right-hand man, Silvio Dante.

The series was such a hit that it led to the 2021 movie The Many Saints of Newark, which starred Gandolfini’s son Michael as a young Tony Soprano.

Throughout its seven-season, 86-episode run, the Gandolfini-helmed crime drama was nominated for many awards. The series won 21 Primetime Emmy Awards out of 111 nominations.

Fans can now binge-watch 15 deleted scenes, which are currently streaming on Max, and refresh their memories with the new official Sopranos TikTok that pays homage to the classic hit and encapsulates each episode in 25 seconds.

In addition to the newly-released scenes, Max is also airing over five hours of behind-the-scenes featurette content, and every season of the hit series is currently available to stream on Max.

The Sopranos broke viewing records at HBO and forever changed how we consume entertainment as viewers binge-watched episodes en masse.

Per the cable giant, the series historically ranks as one of HBO’s most popular shows and remains a popular title on Max. At the height of its popularity, The Sopranos was watched by an audience of 12 million viewers each week.

The fourth season premiere, which aired in September of 2002, garnered the series’ highest-ever rating for a first-run episode with nearly 13.5 million viewers. This level of viewership occurred in a pre-Netflix streaming era and was a record-breaker for HBO.

Episodes of The Sopranos will be available to sample through select free on-demand platforms. Episodes one and two from Season One will also be accessible on Max’s YouTube channel.

For diehard fans, and there are many, Max has also partnered with Robert Iler and Jamie-Lynn Sigler for a special 25th Anniversary edition of their podcast, Not Today, Pal. The two will reminisce about their roles as Meadow and A.J. Soprano and answer questions from fans. The episode will be available on January 18 via the HBO YouTube channel and all major podcast platforms.
